Gruissan – Plage des Chalets

The home of the Défi Wind, launched from the Plage des Chalets on the spit between the Mediterranean and the Étang du Grazel. In a strong Tramontana the wind is side-offshore and the water flat for kilometres along the beach towards Port-la-Nouvelle, a speed strip where the wind gets steadier the further south you go; the beach huts make the first metres gusty, so kiters move down the beach. The Tramontana is strongest around Narbonne and blows for days at a time, and the thermal south-easterly can reach 25 knots; for intermediate and advanced riders.
