South of Perth, the afternoon sea breeze known as the Fremantle Doctor blows 15–25 knots through the summer over the Pond, a shallow, flat sandbank sheltered by Penguin Island. It is Perth's main teaching and freestyle spot. Beginners and flat-water riders love it; the nearby open beaches add chop and waves for others.
