Fishing villages near Toliara on Madagascar's south-west coast, where a long barrier reef encloses flat lagoons and the southerly trade wind blows from June to October. Anakao has a lagoon around the island of Nosy Ve, reef waves at breaks like Flame Balls and a downwinder across the bay; Ifaty to the north has flat water inside the lagoon and waves on the reef about 5 km out.
