Barbados – Silver Sands

The riding on Barbados happens on the south coast around Christ Church, and the southern tip at Silver Sands and Silver Point is the best known spot, with the island's strongest and most reliable wind and a reef 250 m out, 1–2 m deep, that shapes a clean wave to ride downwind. The trade wind is cross-offshore to cross-onshore at 15–25 knots in the December to March peak and stays good until July, side-shore when it comes from the north-east and rougher when it swings south-east; Barbados is outside the trade wind's core zone, so it stays moderate rather than fierce. Full-on wave conditions in winter for riders who can water start, gybe and hold ground, with whitewater inshore; beginners get their chance on lighter days off Long Beach, where there is more room.
