A peninsula of white coral sand on the mainland opposite Masirah with crystal clear turquoise lagoons of knee to waist-deep water, one of them up to 12 km of shallows, glassy flat for freestyle and freeriding. The southerly monsoon blows from May to September, 20–35 knots from mid-June to the end of August, onshore on the ocean side and offshore but sheltered by the mainland in the lagoons. Reached only by 4x4 across salt flats and quicksand, so go with a guide; camping in Bedouin tents and beach barbecues are part of the trip.
