Île de Ré – Rivedoux

The island off La Rochelle has a mild, sunny Atlantic climate, regular wind and big tides, and a spot for every taste: Rivedoux Nord at the entrance to the island works on north-westerlies, gets choppy with the thermal breeze and is good for downwinders, while Rivedoux Sud takes north-east to west and stays fairly flat with some swell on a big incoming tide; both are rideable at any tide with parking at the water. Le Lizay near Petit Bec is the wave and jumping spot with side wind, and the sailing centre at La Couarde-sur-Mer has pontoons and flat water for practising dock starts. Rideable all year, best in spring, summer and autumn; suits all levels.
