Lake Arenal

A long reservoir below the Arenal volcano in northern Costa Rica and one of Central America's windiest places. From December to May the trade wind funnels across the lake, a high-wind destination where locals rarely fly anything bigger than a 9 m kite; the fresh water builds real chop and waves. For experienced riders; stay upwind.
