Mannar

Kalpitiya's quieter alternative in the far north-west of Sri Lanka: a sandy peninsula between the Gulf of Mannar and a lagoon, with crystal clear water, flat lagoons and views of the outlying islands, and wind the locals call the most stable in the country. In winter the riding is on the sea side, in summer on the lagoon, so the spot works most of the year, with 20 knots giving the experienced riders their fun. The shallow lagoon is a good place to learn, and it is far less gusty and crowded than Kalpitiya.
