Moulay Bouzerktoun

A fishing village 25–30 km north of Essaouira whose beach is one of the world's great windsurf wave spots, with the north-east trade wind blowing side-shore from the left 1–2 Bft stronger than in Essaouira, often 30–35 knots. Summer brings very strong wind and smaller waves, spring and autumn bigger swell of 1.5–3 m with 4–6 Bft; the bottom is a flat rock slab, not sand, so low tide needs care, and the morning is lighter and good for surfing. Kiting and wing foiling have joined windsurfing here, but it is a spot for experienced wave riders only, in a town that lives for the sport.
