Phuket – Chalong & Nai Yang

Phuket has two seasons and the scene moves with the wind: from December to February, in the dry high season, riders use Chalong and Friendship Beach in the south-east, a bay protected from big waves with waist-deep water that is ideal for beginners; from June to September, in the wet season, it is Nai Yang beach in a national park in the north-east, five minutes from the airport, again flat and waist-deep. Wind probability is not the island's strength, but the infrastructure, the palm-lined beaches and the nightlife are, so non-riding travel partners are well catered for. A learning and cruising spot rather than a wind machine.
