Tobago – Pigeon Point

A lagoon of about 2.5 by 1.3 km behind the reefs at Pigeon Point, one of the Caribbean's postcard beaches: standing depth for the first 20–30 m, then water so clear you always see the sandy bottom, with chop that tops out around 30 cm on the strongest days. The east-north-east trade wind averages 4–5 Bft from late November to June, thermally boosted and a little gusty near the shore because it comes over land. Uncrowded, safe and shut off from the open sea by the reefs, it is a dream for flat-water cruising and for anyone uneasy in deep water; suits all levels.
