Roatán

On this Bay Island off Honduras the Caribbean trade wind blows most reliably from February to the end of July, averaging about 20 knots, picking up around midday and turning from side-offshore in the morning to side-shore, occasionally side-onshore in a blow. A reef 300 m out keeps the big waves off, and the shallow water between Kite Beach and the reef stretches for kilometres, ideal for tricks or simply cruising in 28 °C water with 33 °C air. Rarely more than 5–15 kites on the water, a small standing area upwind for beginners and a safety boat at the station.
