One of Europe's largest shallow lagoons, about 7 by 3 km between Trapani and Marsala, standing depth almost everywhere and usable at any tide. Thermally boosted Mistral, Grecale and Scirocco give 14–20 knots on most days from late March to October, strongest from May to September, with around 300 windy days a year. Glassy water and a soft, slightly muddy bottom make it one of the easiest places anywhere to learn and to train freestyle; waves are an hour's drive south, and leggings help against the anemones and jellyfish.
