Koh Samui

Thailand's resort island in the Gulf of Thailand, rideable in the north-east monsoon from late November to February or March, with light winds of 8–18 knots that come in cycles of a week or so. Chaweng's 7 km beach has flat water between the reef and the shore at its northern end; the kite beach on the south-east coast is a standing-depth lagoon protected by a reef, excellent for beginners. Don't kite in front of the airport.
