Lake Winnipeg

One of Canada's largest lakes, an hour north of Winnipeg, with sandy beaches such as Grand Beach and the Sunset Bowl, a low, U-shaped sand island 800 m offshore with flat water inside and wind chop outside. Frontal winds from south-south-east to south-west are best, strongest in spring and autumn when the lake effect kicks in; wind tides can raise or drop the water by 3–5 ft in hours.
