Phú Quý Island

A remote island a few hours by boat off the coast of Phan Thiết. From November to April the north-east monsoon blows side-onshore almost daily at 20–25 knots, sometimes 35–40, over clear water: flat in the lagoon at high tide, with big waves on the reef. The rest of the year brings a lighter south-easterly. Bring your passport and avoid the north end of the bay, where locals spearfish.
