Port Douglas – Four Mile Beach

Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas, an hour from Cairns beside the Great Barrier Reef, is over 6 km of sand swept by thermal winds that follow the monsoonal pattern of the tropical north, with an annual average of 13.5 knots and the best time from May to November. Safe, with lots of space and good wind on the day, plus small waves; tropical vegetation and mountains behind. A warm-weather cruising spot for all levels rather than a wind machine.
