Gran Canaria – Bahía Feliz & Pozo Izquierdo

The east coast of Gran Canaria is where the north-east trade wind is squeezed along the island in summer, building through the day and dying towards evening: strongest at Pozo Izquierdo, the world-cup wave spot reserved for windsurfers, and gentler in the sheltered bay of Bahía Feliz with mostly side-shore wind and flat water, where the centre and the family resorts are. Winter brings an easterly trade with a nice wave at Bahía Feliz and Playa del Águila and planing conditions on 60–70 % of days. Kiters use Bahía Feliz, Arinaga and Vargas, where there is room; the strong-wind spots to the north are for experts only, and the water is 18–22 °C.
