A 5 km beach backed by high dunes on Ireland's south coast, stony near the promenade and sandier towards the far end. South-easterly to west-south-westerly frontal winds bring small to medium waves and some current; in July and August the beach in front of the promenade is reserved for surfers and swimmers.
