An island an hour's ferry ride from Singapore. Trikora on the east coast has very flat, clean water with little current and no shipping, one of the easiest places to learn or to practise freestyle; watch for a few small rocks. The north-east monsoon brings 12–20 knots from mid-December to March, and a few beaches also catch the south-west monsoon from July to September.
