El Tur

A natural spit closes off Moses Bay on the west coast of Sinai and keeps the Red Sea swell out, leaving flat water in the bay with a gently shelving sandy beach and a big standing area for beginners in its northern corner. The northerly wind is squeezed past the 2,300 m Mount Sinai and arrives strongest from the north-east, gusty near the shipyards but steady on the spit. Unusually for Egypt there are breaking waves: hip-high over the reef at the tip of the spit for wave beginners, and at Habibi Beach 2 km north the bent-around Red Sea swell builds mast-high sets on good days for experienced riders.
