Hamata – Kite Village
A 2 by 3 km sand-bottom lagoon among mangroves in the far south of the Egyptian Red Sea, possibly the largest standing area in the country, with knee to chest-deep water and a channel that stays hip-deep even at the lowest tides. Winters are up to 6 °C warmer than Hurghada, so the thermal keeps working from November to February with 18–24 knots on average and days of 28–30 in the transition months; July and August bring a gentler 16–18 knots and a lower lagoon that is perfect for children. Wind builds during the morning from side-offshore to side-onshore from the left and eases in the early afternoon; ideal for beginners and improvers, with deep water outside for the rest, and not suited to windsurfing.
