Lahami Bay

A huge lagoon in the far south of the Egyptian Red Sea, near Berenice, closed off by a 2 km house reef, so the water stays flat even with the side-offshore wind from the left. Wind blows all year and this is the most reliable winter choice in Egypt, a few degrees warmer than the spots around Hurghada; a rescue boat covers the offshore wind, and the first 100 m are gusty because the hotel sits upwind. A sandy, standing-depth entry makes it easy to learn on, and confident riders can pass through the reef, with the station's agreement, for swell that reaches several metres.
