Makadi Bay

A 2 by 2 km hotel bay between Hurghada and Safaga with beginner, freeride and wave conditions side by side: inside the bay the buildings upwind make the northerly a little gusty and there is at most a light chop, with sandbanks downwind to walk back on if anything goes wrong. Outside the bay the wind is steady and a 2–3 m Red Sea swell with a round, non-breaking face gives wave beginners their first rides, but leaving the bay is only allowed in groups of three or more. Kite lessons happen north of the bay in the lagoon off Hasheesh Island, which is shallow and flat at every tide; Safaga is a 10 EUR taxi ride away for free wind and space.
