The windiest place in the continental United States and famous for its consistency: from March to August a thermal southerly to south-easterly arrives in the early afternoon and keeps building into the evening, and from September to March cold fronts bring stronger northerlies that open up other spots. Wildcat Park in Portland is the most popular and windiest launch, with flat to choppy waist-deep water that is ideal for learning, though beginners want booties against the oyster shells; there are so many spots that six riders in one place counts as crowded. The water is murky rather than clear, and a car is needed, but for kiting as many days as possible it is hard to beat.
