The north-shore trade winds at Kanaha Beach Park and neighbouring Kite Beach made Maui the birthplace of modern kiting and a wing-foil hub, with a who's who of pro riders on the water. Mornings are flat inside the reef, afternoons bring wind swell and rolling waves outside. Kahului Harbor and Kihei suit beginners; Kanaha's outer reef and Ho'okipa down the coast are for experienced riders.
