Lamu

A Swahili island in northern Kenya where miles of empty beach run south from Shela village. A huge sandbar stretches out for kilometres, giving excellent flat water about three hours either side of low tide, and small waves break far out on it at high tide. The north-east Kaskazi blows around December and January and the south-east Kusi from June to August; you often have the water to yourself.
