Los Barriles

A village on the Sea of Cortez between La Paz and Los Cabos with a huge sandy beach, where the El Norte thermal builds early in the morning and keeps blowing all day at 20 knots or more from October to March, side-onshore from the north and north-east. Rolling swell gives great ramps for jumping, mornings are flatter, and the shore break makes it a place to work on wave style; Playa Norte at the north-east end is the locals' favourite, and boots help on the rocky launch in front of the centre. Winter days in the 20s, cool nights, water that asks for a shorty; suits all levels.
