The 1.5 km channel between Paros and Antiparos accelerates the Meltemi like the one between Paros and Naxos, so Pounda gets reliable, steady side-shore wind from the right, up to 7 Bft in summer with July and August the best months. The bay is nearly always flat, with almost no swell thanks to the surrounding coast and islets, a wide sandy beach that shelves so gently there is a huge standing area, and a rescue boat on duty. Ideal for learning, freeride and long distance sessions, but crowded with schools in August; wave riders go to Golden Beach and New Golden Beach on the east coast, and on light days a foil earns its keep.
