Crete – Kouremenos

Kouremenos bay near Palekastro on Crete's east coast is a high-wind freeride and freestyle spot: local thermals and a jet through the hills push the wind to 6–7 Bft, side to side-offshore from the left, most reliably in July and August within a mid-May to mid-October season. The water gets deep enough to foil quickly, stays glassy near the shore and turns to chop for jumping further out; two small, visible reef plates aside, the bottom is sand. The framing headlands keep the bay safe despite the strength, but the wind is gusty around midday, so it is one for intermediate and advanced riders who like it strong and unspoilt.
