Santander – Somo

A huge sandy beach across the bay from Santander and one of northern Spain's surf centres. In summer a north-easterly thermal sets in between two and four in the afternoon; the open beach has waves, with kiters on its left-hand side, while the river mouth behind the spit gives excellent flat, shallow water at high tide for beginners. North-westerlies come with bad weather.
