A long, wide sandy beach a few kilometres west of Heraklion on Crete's north coast. The summer Meltemi blows from the north-west, sometimes gusty; close in the water is mostly flat to choppy, and on stronger days waves of up to 1.5 m let beginners get a first taste of wave riding. Keep clear of the swimming zones in front of the hotels.
