A long coastal lagoon with waist-deep water over a sandy bottom. At Costa Nova, by Barra beach, the summer Nortada blows steadily from the north from March to October over perfectly flat to choppy water; Murtosa further north is shallow and flat and suits beginners. In winter a gusty, shifty southerly takes over; the Atlantic beaches with waves are next door.
