A sand spit at the mouth of the Cávado river in northern Portugal with flat, shallow water in the river lagoon on one side and beach-break waves of 1–2 m on the ocean side. The summer Nortada blows steadily from the north-west at 15–20 knots almost daily from May to September. The lagoon is a safe place to learn; the sea side is for wave riding.
