Peniche – Baleal

Portugal's surf capital, an hour and a quarter north of Lisbon. The 2 km bay of white sand between Peniche and Baleal faces almost every wind from west to north-east and always has real Atlantic waves, from half a metre to five; the wind is usually 12–25 knots, strongest from the north in summer and from the west in winter, though less windy than around Lisbon. No kites in the swimming zones in July and August.
