Cape Cod – West Dennis Beach

A mile-long sandy beach on Nantucket Sound, one of the East Coast's best-known kite spots. In summer a thermal south-westerly of about 20 knots comes in most afternoons, over water that is only 1–3 ft deep at low tide for half a mile out; above 25 knots the sound builds a 2–4 ft chop, and the tidal river mouth is flatter. In season there is a single launch near the jetty, and a kite festival has been held here every year since 2003.
