Cairns – Yorkeys Knob

A beach north of Cairns in tropical Queensland with a strip reserved for wind and kitesurfing. The south to south-easterly trade wind blows 12–20 knots, sometimes 25, very consistently from April to September and builds from noon; about 600 m of flat to choppy water leads down to a river mouth with really flat water. Two schools hold permits, so no private teaching; beginners stay south of the main area.
