A Wadden island that often gets more wind than the mainland. On the Wadden Sea side at Buren a huge shallow area gives flat water for three hours either side of high tide, launched from a grass dyke; the North Sea beach at Hollum has chop, small waves and strong currents for experienced riders. Ballum's lagoon is closed to kiting from March to October for nature protection. Spring and autumn are windiest.
