Galinhos
A sand-street fishing village on a 300 m wide lagoon island 70 km west of São Miguel do Gostoso, reached by a ten-minute ferry, with two completely different areas a short walk apart: the crescent bay on the sea side, where waves reach 2 m in the afternoon and the bay catches you before you can drift off, and the lagoon on the other side with flat water and a light chop. The coast runs east to west here, so the trade wind is bent along it and blows harder than in Parajuru or Barra Nova, side-onshore from the north-east. Boat trips go upwind into the dune lagoon, where the Presidio spot is huge standing-depth flat water at the right tide, and the Capim lagoon is the place to learn; still uncrowded on land and on the water.
