Parajuru

The mouth of the Rio Pirangi 120 km south of Fortaleza, where a delta with a big sandbank gives a lagoon that is standing depth at low tide, a square kilometre of shallows for beginners, glassy river water 500 m upwind for jumping and new moves, and the typical Brazilian wave outside. The east to south-east trade wind comes side-onshore at 15–25 knots with over 70 % reliability from June to January and the best conditions from August to November; the wind is more onshore and a little lighter here than north of Fortaleza. At high tide the waves reach 2 m and small flat pools form behind the sandbank; 30 °C air, 28 °C water and hardly any rain in season.
