Tatajuba
A river mouth west of Jericoacoara that adds a few knots to Brazil's already reliable wind: side-onshore from the right with a 99 % wind probability from July to February, 17–23 knots in July, August and February and 22–30 knots in the peak months. The tide shapes the spot, with a large, mostly shallow lagoon up to the dunes around high water for learning and freestyle and, at low water, a walk out to ride the shore break on the open sea; upwind buggy trips go to the flat water of Guriú for a 12 km downwinder back, and the 16 km freshwater Lagoa da Torta lies among the dunes 4 km away. Endless space and 28 °C water for every level, from first metres to wave beginners on the ocean side; check the tides before you go.
