Paracuru
One of the best wave spots in Brazil: at Quebra Mar, east of the town, a ring of reef about 200 m out sorts the waves into clean sets of up to 2.5 m depending on the tide, with side-onshore wind from the right about a kite size stronger than in Cumbuco. At normal water levels the reef is 2 m down and can be crossed anywhere, while at low tide it protects the inside and leaves first-class flat water, so everyone gets their share; at new and full moon the water drops so far that the reef can no longer be crossed in many places. A short downwinder reaches the mouth of the Rio Curu, where sandbanks form small flat lagoons at high tide, and Paracuru is the usual starting point for downwind safaris to Lagoinha.
