Fife – St Andrews & Pettycur Bay

Scotland's east coast north of Edinburgh. West Sands at St Andrews is a long, hard-packed beach beside the golf course, where sandbars create flat water on the tide, northerlies work best and low-pressure swell brings waves; keep out of the estuary at the north end, which lies under the RAF Leuchars flight path. Pettycur Bay near Kinghorn has 4 miles of flat sand and a big shallow area in south-westerlies, with a 6 m spring tidal range.
