A pebble beach on the Kent side of the Thames estuary. At low tide in easterly or westerly winds a sandbar called The Street, running straight out from the shore, makes the water perfectly flat. East-north-easterlies are best and can give good summer days; westerly systems bring most wind from September to May. Launch behind the harbour or at the end of Tankerton Bay, the only places without closely set groynes.
