Fortim – Pontal de Maceió

A lonely beach at the mouth of the Jaguaribe river south of Fortaleza where the east to south-east trade wind blows onshore to side-onshore at 15–25 knots with over 70 % reliability from late June to January, best from August to November, with a 9 m² kite the standard. Two hours either side of low tide there is a huge standing area of perfect flat water for freestylers, foilers and first metres; at high tide the standing area disappears, the spot turns choppy and big tides can bring a current in the river bed. A reef 1.5 km out has small, moderate waves for wave beginners; 30 °C air, 28 °C water and one-to-one lessons at the centre by the lodge.
