The sheltered harbour that hosted the 2012 Olympic sailing, reached from the grassy bank halfway along the Chesil Beach road. South-westerlies and westerlies blow side-off to offshore along the pebble beach, giving silky flat water that suits beginners and intermediates; easterlies are onshore and choppy, and then kiting is only allowed at low tide, well off the beach.
