A North Frisian island whose Kniepsand is one of the widest beaches in Europe. At low tide a shallow lagoon forms between the beach and the outer sandbar, good for learning; at high tide waves of up to 2 m break close in at Nebel and on the bar at Norddorf. Westerly depressions bring the wind from autumn to spring; mind the current and the swimming zones to the south.
