Steinhuder Meer

Northern Germany's largest lake, near Hanover, shallow for about 500 m from shore with flat to choppy water. Mardorfer Strand and Weißer Berg have dedicated kite areas, left of the buoys at Mardorf; launch and land in the water. Westerlies are side-onshore and best, but the wind is often northerly (offshore) and gusty. The lake is closed to water sports from mid-November to about 20 March.
