Reggio Calabria – Punta Pellaro

A broad grey-sand beach on the Strait of Messina south of Reggio Calabria, looking across to Sicily and Etna. From May to September the local thermal, the Boria, blows from the north or north-west at 18–25 knots on about 70 percent of days, over flat to choppy water that can build 1.5 m waves when the strait's current turns. The water is deep a few metres out; mind the current further off the beach.
