Lacanau & Hourtin lakes

Two big freshwater lakes behind the Médoc dunes, an hour from Bordeaux. Summer afternoons bring a thermal of up to 20 knots over flat, shallow water, ideal for learning and freestyle; there are marked kite zones at Lacanau-Ville and at Plage du Port on the Hourtin–Carcans lake. Autumn low pressures add stronger days, and the Atlantic beaches with waves are ten minutes away.
